Agricultural Law
White Schneider has been at the forefront of defending and protecting the rights of Michigan growers to market their commodities.
Agriculture is the third largest segment of the Michigan economy. The commodities that Michigan growers produce for local, national, and foreign markets account for 13% of an estimated $100 billion industry. Michigan’s growers operate in a complex regulatory environment that includes such statutes as the:
- Michigan Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act
- Michigan Agricultural Marketing & Bargaining Act
- Capper-Volstead Act
- Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act
The attorneys of our firm have appeared in landmark agricultural law cases on behalf of grower organizations before the United States Supreme Court, the Michigan Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Agricultural Marketing and Bargaining Board, and other tribunals. Our lawyers are frequently appointed as Special Assistant Attorney Generals to represent the Michigan Department of Agriculture and various agricultural marketing groups in the interests of the agricultural community.
We work with our clients to navigate the complex state and federal regulations that govern their activities, and work closely with grower organizations to champion public policy and address important issues that impact farming operations.
