I don't believe just ‘cause ideas are tenacious it means that they're worthy.
- Tim Minchin
Erin Hopper Donahue protects and pursues the rights of hard-working employees involved in workplace disputes, as well as helps her clients overcome difficult situations and achieve the best possible results in her family law practice.
As a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment and Alternative Dispute Resolution practices, Erin represents employees facing disciplinary actions, discrimination, and job terminations that threaten their livelihoods. Her clients include public sector union members such as teachers and public school educators, nurses, and police officers, as well as civil service workers and non-union, private sector workers. She also represents labor organizations in collective bargaining, Public Employment Relations Act matters, and union election rules violations.
Championing her clients’ rights means that Erin frequently appears in state and federal courts, administrative agencies such as the Michigan Employment Relations Commission and the State Teacher Tenure Commission, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings including arbitrations mediations. She also negotiates severance agreements for employees and argues appeals of long-term disability denials.
Among her most notable accomplishments, Erin secured a significant victory on behalf of a female employee alleging discrimination under Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act. Erin’s aggressive advocacy resulted in a substantial settlement that enabled her client to move on and comfortably regain her livelihood.
The remainder of Erin’s practice is devoted to family law, including divorce and related issues such as child custody and parenting time, spousal support, and division of property. She seeks to have the parties achieve amicable results, utilizing mediation and negotiation that allows them to decide the outcome, not a judge. Failing that, however, she is ready to zealously advocate for her clients’ rights in courtroom litigation.
Outside of the office, Erin happily spends her time trying to keep up with her two young children.
